We were recently commissioned by the owner of a number of historic aircraft to produce a model of the Pratt and Whitney R985 Wasp junior.
The CAD model was designed for the production of 3D printed and machined stand alone models in various scales together with versions for detailing large RC aircraft.
As an exercise it was an interesting challenge particularly around cooling vanes and other elements on the cylinder heads. Modeling in CAD what would have been made in the pattern ‘shop in reality required some complex surfacing.
A few rough test prints have been produced to check component fit etc. Still a work in progress. The next stage is to model as the main rear casting for the carb ,magnetos and electrics.
